The Vampire Diaries: The Kat's Out of the Bag

In last night's episode of The Vampire Diaries, "Gone Girl," the Kat is finally out of the bag... the gang is trying to get Katherine out of Elena's body, Katherine is trying to get the werewolf venom out of Nadia's bloodstream, and Damon is just trying to get out of the basement.

Watch this episode "Gone Girl"

Nadia is dying from Tyler's werewolf bite. Katherine has enlisted Dr. Wes to help (since she can't exactly go calling on Klaus). Katherine vows to Nadia that she will be a better mother... we'll see how long that lasts.

Meanwhile everyone lets each other know the secret about Katherine inhabiting Elena's body. Stefan tells Damon, so that he knows that his little murder spree was all him reacting to Katherine.
Damon: I'm trying to figure out why you decided to tell a starving, blood-thirsty, vampire-feeding ripper that his nemesis is still walking around alive and well while I'm stuck in this cell and can't do anything about it.
Caroline and Tyler explain the story to Matt (poor dumb Matt, he had one episode of being in the loop and now he's back to being clueless). They need to figure out a plan, but Tyler admits he may have bit Nadia, so Katherine will be unlikely to leave her side. They have to find a reason to lure her away from Nadia. Something "Elena" couldn't say no to, so if Katherine did, it would compromise her identity. Their first plan: pretend they're throwing Bonnie a surprise birthday party.
Bonnie: A surprise party. seriously? I wanted a spa day. You try feeling the death of every supernatural creature that passes through you on the way to the other side.
Again, a reminder of the fact that Katherine never passed through Bonnie... this is a glaring hole in the entire mythology of this show. Why has no one acknowledged this? Why hasn't anyone questioned this until now?

Katherine-Elena lies and says she can't make it to the fake surprise party because she's making arrangements for Aaron Whitmore's funeral. So Bonnie tries on her own and invites K-E out for coffee, but she lies again.
Katherine: Why are they being so clingy today?
Back at Casa de Salvatore, Stefan gives Damon 4 oz of vampire blood. He wants more, obviously. But Stefan is rationing him. Since one vamp kept him good for 8 hours, they calculate that 4 ounces, 3 times a day, should be enough to manage the hunger.
Stefan: Our friend Caroline did a little bit of math.
Damon: Caroline?
Stefan: Relax, she had a calculator.
Stefan decides on one final plot to get Katherine there... he figures if he asks, she will come a-running. He's about to call her when Damon's phone rings and it's her. She asks to see him, so he invites her to the house. The brothers Salvatore look perplexed. So do Nadia and Katherine. Damon just tried to kill her but now he's desperate to see her... that makes no sense... unless they know. At the same time, Stefan and Damon realize she was just testing them because she knows.

So they know... and she knows that they know...and now they know that she knows that they know... but does she know that they know that she knows that that they know!?

As Nadia comes closer and closer to death, she keeps having flashbacks of her past, as she searched for her mother for hundreds of years. Katherine has brought her to a church, to her her until Wes can figure out how to heal her. She tells Nadia that she didn't raise a quitter and as soon as she's better, they're leaving, together.

Damon suggest a locator spell to find Katherine-Elena, so Bonnie and Jeremy visit their new witchy friend Liv. She was successful in helping Bonnie locate Jeremy, so she can help find his sister.
Liv: Did she run away from home?
Jeremy: No, she's been possessed by her evil doppelganger.
Bonnie helps Liv do the locator spell to find Elena, and takes a little bit of Jeremy's blood (since he's Elena' brother/cousin). She flirts with Jeremy the whole time and Bonnie is pissed. Gotta say, Liv was all afraid of magic last time we saw her and now all of a sudden she's acting like a cocky bitch. Bonnie, do something! The spell works... Liv asks if her sister spends a lot of time in church.

Meanwhile, Tyler babysits Damon as he asks for more blood.
Damon: Give me a couple sips of that hybrid juice...
Damon tries to get a rise out of him, so he baits him by talking about Caroline. He wants to know why Tyler is still in Mystic Falls. His family is dead and he's not going to Whitmore College, so why is he still in town? He's sticking around for Caroline. Tyler fires back that Elena will never forgive Damon. He enters Damon's cell to taunt him.
Tyler: You're a joke Damon.
Damon: Says the guy pining for the girl who slept with Klaus.
Tyler: You don't know any thing about me.
Damon: I knew how to get you in this cell.
He starts to feed on him but instead of killing him, he slams him against the wall, rips his chains out of the wall and leaves. Later Stefan and Caroline return to find Tyler bleeding on the floor of Damon's cell. Ruh Roh! Damon has gone to find Wes.
Damon: Long way off the tenure track, guess the Augustine Society had a little bit of a rough streak.
Dr. Wes: There is no Augustine Society, Damon. It's just me.
Damon: Well then I guess you're my guy.
Dr. Wes knows that he wants to win his ex-girlfriend back and doesn't have a chance if he's lusting over her blood, however he tells Damon that it's not going to help. Even if he stops feeding on his friends, he's just going to go back to feeding on innocent people. This pisses Damon off - you know for a smart guy, Dr. Wes sure is acting pretty stupid purposely making the murderous vampire mad. Damon decides to torture him and "play doctor" the same way he was tortured in the Augustine cell for so many years. Ew.

Of course, this doesn't make a lot of sense. Even if he can't get Elena back, he still needs Dr. Wes to help him get rid of his vampire blood-lust so eh doesn't eat all his other vampire friends.

After Damon leaves, Katherine arrives to find Wes's bloody body and freaks out because he hasn't cured Nadia yet! She gets a call from Nadia's phone but it's not her, it's Stefan. He tells her has Nadia and she doesn't have much time. Nadia yells out for Katherine to run, but Stefan warns her that ifs he runs she won't get to see her daughter again before she dies. It's her choice. Matt tends to sick Nadia, while they wait. Nadia mistakes him for Gregor and starts to apologize to him.
Nadia: Gregor. I'm sorry I betrayed you. I did it for my mother. I did everything for her.
She doesn't want to die. The rest of the scooby gang shows up and Bonnie sits with her to tell her what will happen when she dies. She will take her hand and she will go to the other side. She tells her that she won't feel any pain (no, it's just Bonnie who will feel the pain). Then Katherine shows up. No one expected that - but she's there and takes Nadia's hand. She tells her that she won't leave her again. She admits that Klaus's blood would have saved her, but she never asked for it. She would've outed herself... but Nadia would still be alive. She was selfish and now it's too late.  Nadia starts to slip away into delirium.
Nadia: My mother's name is Katherine, I'm looking for her.
Katherine: You found me. Nadia, I'm right here.
Nadia: She's a liar and a murderer. She manipulates, she betrays, she will do anything to survive.
Katherine: Nadia, no I'm... I'm right here. I'm here, I'm right here.
Nadia: I'm looking for my mother...
Katherine: This is not what your life should've been. 500 years searching for a mother who ended up... being me.
She goes into her memories to show her what her life could've been. We see Nadia as a little girl and they live in a little cottage together, She tells her, "your mother loves you" as Nadia dies. Then Nadia's spirit (or whatever you call it) looks on at Katherine lovingly. She takes Bonnie's hand and passes through Bonnie to the other side. Damon arrives just in time.
Katherine: Who's got the knife? Which one of you is gonna get to kill the elusive Katherine Pierce once and for all? What... suddenly everyone's speechless? When I was on my death bed you all had plenty to say.

She goes around the room to every one...
  • Tyler: She triggered the werewolf curse and gave him a new - better - identity.
  • Caroline: She made her better by making her a vampire.
  • Matt: He will go down as the best night she never had. Oh well.
  • Jeremy ("Little Gilbert"): It was nice to have a brother for a second there, when he wasn't being so damn annoying.
  • Bonnie: "Bon Bon, no need for goodbyes. I'll see you on the flip side."
She saved the Brothers Salvatore for last...
Katherine: I'm sorry. You blame me for who you are and I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I turned you, I'm sorry that I gave your life purpose, passion, drive, desire... I'm sorry that you are who you are, because I'm the one that taught you how to love.
Damon: I'll see you in hell Katherine.

Katherine: Stefan: you know I always wondered what it would be like to be loved by you. You've got to admit for that one fleeting moment, your feelings were real. This truly has been the role of a lifetime. Stefan, I love you, I've always loved you.
She kisses him and he stabs her with the Traveler knife.
Katherine: Then I guess this is how our love story ends.
She falls down beside her dead daughter's dessicated body and her eyes go black, before she collapses and passes out. The group wants to bury Nadia's body in the woods but Matt says that she deserves better and carries her away. (To... where?) Damon still doesn't have a plan to deal with his blood-thirstiness, but he's going to tell Elena what he did. He doesn't want to be another Katherine Pierce.
Damon: Katherine spent her whole life running from her problems, only to die here. All alone.
Outside, Tyler and Caroline are still fucking fighting about Klaus. Oh my god are you all as bored with this as I am?
Caroline: Your hybrid bite just killed someone and no one even batted an eye. I sleep with the wrong guy weeks ago and I don't hear the end of it.How is that fair?
Tyler: I don't care Car, maybe people just expect more from you.
Caroline: Why? Because being good comes so easy to me?
She tells him that she's a vampire, she has the same impulses as him. She has the right to make mistakes. She slept with Klaus after Tyler walked away from her. She's done feeling guilty.

Bonnie goes back to church to light a candle for her father because she misses him. Katherine laughs and mocks her for still believing in a higher power. Bonnie realizes that it finally worked - she's dead. Katherine says they didn't really give her much of a choice, using her daughter against her. She didn't want to spend the next 500 years running, so Elena wins again. She's so sick of Elena getting everything she wants... so she did something about it. Katherine reveals that Wes had no intention of helping Nadia. He was using her in his plan to wipe out vampires. (He used the werewolf venom in her blood to make the vampire virus - or whatever it was - even more powerful in wiping out vampires.)
Katherine: Elena had the life I always wanted, well until now.
She injected herself before returning to Nadia (meaning she injected Elena). She turned her into a ripper too, one with a little something extra that we won't see until next week.

Meanwhile, back at Casa de Salvatore, Elena wakes up and smiles when she sees the brothers Salvatore. Then she finds the (empty) syringe in her pocket.

Katherine tries to pass through Bonnie to the other side, but it doesn't work.  Bonnie reveals that this has never happened before. Neither of them knows what's going on, but Bonnie says she can't help her, it's not up to her. So who is it up to? Just then Katherine gets sucked out the door of the church to who knows where... Is she going to vampire doppelganger traveler hell? How exactly is it that Katherine isn't worthy of the afterlife? Could she possibly be worse than every other being that has died? Even Qetsiyah and Silas? Something fishy here...
